Palladium is a soft, white metal that is similar to platinum. It has the lowest melting point and is the least dense of all metals in the platinum metals group. It can be alloyed with yellow gold to produce white gold, and has been used in jewelry as a precious metal since 1939. Its natural white color allows it to be used without the need to be rhodium plated, unlike white gold which requires the rhodium plating.
